I really didn't come to this product page to write a review. I wanted to check pricing and Amazon Prime eligibility, but given the surprisingly low rating, I'm feeling compelled to put in my two cents, for whatever it's worth.It doesn't seem as though most of the negative reviews have any complaints about the product's effectiveness itself and that their primary beef with this product is the dispenser. I personally have no issues or complaints with the way this packaging works. Allow me to elaborate.
Have you ever used shaving gel? This is dispensed in a very similar fashion. You simply have compressed product that, when exposed to air, expands and foams up. Shaving gels do this a bit more excessively. Part of my shaving regimen - when I used a gel - was to rinse out the cap and rinse off the top of the canister. The gel expanded that much!
Other compressed or "foaming" products work the same way. Whatever product is left over in the channel from the canister to the mouth will gradually expand. Since it can't go back into the pressurized canister, it seeps slowly out of the mouth. Before I even purchased this product, I already expected that to happen given my experience with shaving gels and other similarly compressed products.
To address people's complaints that this is a wasteful method of dispensation, I can only agree to a point. Think about it. That channel from the canister to the mouth is extremely narrow. The product is expanding. The amount of product lost from this expansion is extremely minimal. It fools you into thinking you're losing a lot because *it's expanding.*
So why doesn't this product loss bother me? Do people complain about the amount of soap they lose when the soap becomes hardened and gunky in the mouth of the bottle? Or the amount of toothpaste they're losing when they can't squeeze the tube hard enough to extrude the last bits that are hidden in the tube? With any packaging, I expect there to be some product loss, but I also understand that it's always very minimal.
As a note, the expansion of the toothpaste is minute. Contrary to the descriptions of some negative reviews, it doesn't fill up the cap (indeed, it rarely even touches the cap) and is extremely quick and easy to wipe off with a square of toilet paper (or whatever you want to use).
Conclusion: The product works great for me, and the toothpaste's expansion causes a tiny mess that is no more difficult or annoying to put up with than a tube of toothpaste as it nears the end of its life.
[EDIT] I wanted to point out that another negative review mentions Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) and its connection to mouth ulcers. I was unable to locate this ingredient on the ingredient lists on both the product itself AND Sensodyne's website...
