Crest produces many beneficial products, and this product, Crest Tartar Protection, specifically targets the inhibition of tartar formation on teeth. Some people form more tartar than others, in fact, it can really be a problem for people who form tartar easily. There are two tartar inhibitors (disodium pyrophosphate, tetrapotassium pyrophosphate), that specifically inhibit the tartar crystalization (by removing calcium from the crystal), thereby limiting tartar formation on teeth. Used daily, this product will help reduce tartar formation. It has the ADA seal of approval, so therefore, the ingredients are deemed effective and safe.
This toothpaste utilizes silica as a mild abrasive to remove plaque. It also has fluoride (sodium fluoride) which makes tooth enamel and dentin more resistant to cavity formation. Of all the ingredients in toothpaste, sodium fluoride is without a doubt the most important ingredient in improving one's oral health.
Finally, this toothpaste also has sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), a lathering agent, which can be irritating in certain individuals. SLS can cause mouth soreness and even mouth ulcers in those who are sensitive to this ingredient. Fortunately, the vast majority of people tolerate SLS without a problem.
